About Us
Hey there,
My name is Bilal Benn. I am the founder of Workhorse Academy, Nike basketball camp director, and a former professional player.
I grew up in Philadelphia immersed in the local basketball community, spending countless hours in my youth refining my skills through programs around the city.
Upon my graduation from Cardinal Dougherty High School, I earned a full scholarship to attend Villanova University and study under the esteemed Coach Jay Wright while competing at the NCAA Division I level.

After two years as a Wildcat laying the foundation for my game, I sought to continue pushing myself and transferred to Niagara University, where was named an All-Conference selection twice while obtaining my degree in Criminal Justice.
From there, I started out my seven-year professional basketball career spanning top leagues in Lithuania, Portugal, Canada, and Israel, where I became the National League Champion and Finals MVP in 2013.
One year before that, in 2012, I became a certified trainer with Micah Lancaster’s prestigious “I’m Possible” system.
Since then, I have been working with over 100 Division I and NBA athletes, including notable names like Victor Oladipo, Marcus Morris, Kyle Lowry, Jordan Ford, Malik Waynes, Louis King, Khalil Whitney, Scotty Lewis, and more.

Leveraging my experiences competing at the highest levels of amateur and professional basketball, I founded Workhorse Academy in 2017 with the goal of bringing out the best in young athletes in Pennsylvania.
Throughout my decade as a trainer, I have helped well over 50 players earn a combined total of more than $6 million in scholarship awards to top colleges across the United States.
Today, through my roles as a head of Workhorse Academy and Nike basketball camp director, I remain committed to sharing my expertise to develop the next generation of talent in the game that I love.

Our Mission
Our mission is to fully develop young basketball players and help them succeed both on and off the court. We build confident, resilient, and well-rounded athletes through personalized training plans and expert coaching tailored to each child's goals and needs. By working together as a team, we help the next generation of basketball players achieve their dreams while gaining valuable lessons to thrive further as students, leaders, and community members.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy aligns with our mission to holistically develop ambitious young athletes. We believe that technical basketball skills provide the foundation, but instilling core values is equally important in nurturing success on and off the court. In our training, we focus on building confidence, resilience, accountability, leadership, and other vital character strengths. We understand the pressures student-athletes face and provide mentorship to help them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally – inspiring kids to carry the "Workhorse" mentality gained through our training into every important aspect of their lives.
